JILL TOMANDL

Jill Tomandl is a cosmetics industry innovator, award-winning product developer and package designer, creative director, tastemaker and sustainability advocate.  She is currently the Vice President of Global Product Development and Innovation | Estee Lauder Companies, West Coast Brands | Smashbox, Too Faced and Glamglow. She leads Brand Sustainability for Smashbox.

Throughout her career, she has led the ideation and development of innovative, high performance products and unique package design that tell a story and drove the growth of cutting-edge, prestige brands including Smashbox, Stila, Prescriptives, and Hard Candy. Her artistic vision combined with technical expertise create first-to-market beauty industry innovation and trends that resonate with consumers including:

•a new beauty industry subcategory with the first long-wearing, matte liquid lipstick

•the first makeup compact with audio and visual instructions teaching clients how to achieve makeup looks with the Stila Smoky Eye Instructional Talking Palette and franchise

•award-winning makeup with innovative textures, forms, finishes, shades, ingredients and manufacturing processes

•innovative package construction utilizing pan shapes, sizes, placement and shades to create unique designs, inspiring beauty industry package design evolution with the IPDA Grand award-winning Stila Color Wheel Eye Shadow Palette, Stila Dream in Full Color Palette, and Stila Snow Angel Eye and Blush Palette.

•innovative package construction including mood board compacts holding 3D material inspiration

She drove the first-ever 3D printed lipstick launch for the innovation team and Smashbox Brand.

Her beauty, fashion, and art collaborations include Marchesa Couture, Arianne Phillips, Donald Robertson, Vlada Haggerty, and E! Live from the Red Carpet. She initiated and led the Stila for E! Live from the Red Carpet collaboration resulting in multiple product features on E! News, increased brand awareness, and top-selling palettes.

Her work has been seen on runways, the red carpet, ads, fashion and music magazines, editorials, film, television, social media and trend forecasts.

She is leading sustainability initiatives including the development of cruelty-free, vegan products, packaging waste and CO2 reduction, and social impact. She led the Smashbox Be Seen, Be Legendary Lipstick Project created by women of color for people of color to elevate employees and help the community. She led the design, development and repositioning of Jane Cosmetics to support women’s empowerment and trafficking survivors. Packaging and visuals featured lomography of the life changing women at With Two Wings. She creates custom packaging as refillable art objects.

She designed and tailored custom clothing for concert tours, fashion editorials, advertisements, commercials, couture clients, and film. Her work has been featured in an Apple advertisement, Super Bowl Pepsi commercial with the Spice Girls, The Rolling Stones concert tour, and fashion and music magazines including Vogue, W, and Spin.

She is a member of Sustainable Brands, 1% for the Planet, the Environmental Media Association, Cosmetic Executive Women, and a mentor for Qualified and With Two Wings. She speaks about innovation and sustainability at industry events and schools including: Makeup In LA, Paris, New York, Beauty Connect, FIDM, and MUD. She delivered the key note on Beauty Industry Innovation at MakeUp In Los Angeles.

She designed and tailored custom pieces for musicians, actors, concert tours, fashion editorials, ads, commercials, couture clients and film.

She studied packaging, art and fashion design.
